Adopt Nelson: love at first sight!

03/02/2015 – Nelson has been adopted!!!

Nelson is a very sweet little schnauzer who is about 5 years old, and he’s looking for his forever home. He is one of the group of dogs that came to Colorado from Texas recently because they were heartworm positive. Nelson is gray and weighs in at about 20 pounds. He is a little timid, in part because he has some vision problems. He has developed some cloudiness in his eye as a result of an untreated infection. His eyes don’t produce tears, so he is susceptible to eye infections. He needs to have a drop of artificial tears in each eye twice a day. He gets along quite well with this sight problem though, and is still quite adventurous before he comes back to you for some nice snuggle time. He gets along with other small dogs, and was tested with a more dominant male mini during this photo session and they did very well together.

Nelson is neutered, up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, and micro chipped. He has been treated for the heartworms. We won’t know for sure if they are all gone until we retest him in 4 to 6 months. At that time we will get him retested at our expense, and if he needs any further treatment, rescue will cover the cost. If you would like to meet Nelson, please complete the online application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring him for a visit.
