Zuky is a sweet little 5.5 year old gray male Mini mix who weighs in at about 23 pounds. He was surrendered by his owner due to a change in his work schedule. Zuky is very high energy and barks in reaction to new people or dogs, but will calm down after a short period of time. He is currently going outside to play and for potty breaks with a small female mini he just met. He does seem fearful or things, like a leash, going over his head. Zuky would love a fenced in yard where he could run and play, and perhaps a companion dog. Zuky is neutered, he is up to date on his vaccines (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. Zuky had his teeth cleaned since he came into rescue. If you would like to meet Zuky, go to www.cominschnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. Kaiser is a 10 year old black male Mini Schnauzer who has fallen on hard times. We are told that he was a show dog in his younger years, but he lived through the Joplin, Mo. tornado and the owner said that changed his personality. He was moved to the owner's garage, where he lived alone until he came into rescue. He hadn't had any vet care in several years. When we took him into see the rescue vet, we discovered that he had hookworms, roundworms and whipworms! No wonder he was thin and had almost constant diarrhea! He is a sweet, quiet little boy who weighs about 17 pounds. He loves to walk. He is very fearful of storms, understandable after living through a tornado! He has no teeth so he needs soft food, which can be moistened kibble, canned food, or a home made, bland diet. He has significant age related changes in his eyes, so he probably isn't seeing clearly, and definitely has problems seeing in low light. Kaiser likes to sit with his person and watch TV or sleep while his person reads. He would prefer a quiet home with no children. Kaiser is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. Because of his age, we had his blood tested and most results were within normal limits. If you would like to meet Kaiser, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring him for a visit.

Captain and Elliot are a bonded pair of male Mini Schnauzers looking for a loving retirement home. Captain is 11 years old and about 20 pounds, with natural ears, and Elliot is 13 years old and weighs about 24 pounds, with cropped ears. They are currently in a great foster home in the foothills where they walk every day and enjoy roaming in the lovely yard. They are definitely a bonded pair and so need to be adopted together. They are quiet boys who get along well with other dogs and love to follow their person around the house. Captain and Elliot are neutered, they are up to date with their vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. They have had their teeth cleaned and cared for and a couple of fatty lumps removed while in rescue. They both had a senior blood panel completed. Each dog had some values outside of normal limits, but nothing of concern based on a discussion with our vet. If you would like to meet Captain and Elliot, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring "the boys" for a visit.

 . Abby (2017) .
  • Schnauzer
ABBY is a sweet little 10 year old “special needs” mini. After being picked up as a stray, Abby spent her time in the shelter manager’s office because she was such a sweet, well-behaved little dog. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right time for the manager to adopt another dog, so Abby was transferred to our rescue. Her eyes were smaller than normal and sunken in their sockets. We discovered that she had “dry eye” which means that the eyes produced no tears. With our vet’s advice we decided to remove the eyes. When we did we found debris which had accumulated behind the eyes which must have been very painful for her. She is recovering well and getting accustomed to her foster home. Abby loves people attention and lots of lap time. She is quiet, housetrained, and gets along well with other calm dogs. She is just a joy to have around according to her foster mom. Abby is spayed, she is up to date on her vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. She does have a heart murmur, but the vet did not think that she needs medication. Because she is over 9 years old, we did run blood tests which came back within normal limits. She did have her teeth cleaned and cared for while in rescue. If you would like to meet Abby, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Abby for a visit.

Mercedes (4 yr old poodle) and Maxwell Smart (14 yr old bichon) are the sweetest bonded pair who need a foster or adopter. Their mom died very suddenly recently, so their world has been turned upside down. Luckily their mom had loving and devoted friends who ensured that these two came into rescue where we peomised to keep them together since they are very bonded (Max to Mercedes more than the other way around). They are quiet, cuddly, tiny, and adorable. Someone who is retired or who works from home would be ideal since these sweeties are just readjusting from the life they always knew. Max has some health issues as expected with a dog as old as he is, but he's funny and a friend to all dogs he meets. By using a belly band with a feminine pad lining it (rescue will supply) you solve his one indoor issue and voila, a sweet boy who just wants love in his sunset time. Mercedes just wants to be near you, and if you can't find her, just look down and she will be close to your foot, but not in a tripping manner. She is just very devoted. They both love to walk, and will "help" you get their harnesses on. Max is a bit slower as would be expected, and it is so cute, when Mercedes gets a little ahead of you, then realizes is, she backs up to again be right beside you. They are awesome little walking companions, just keeping in mind that Max can't go too far. Mercedes and Max are spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet this sweet pair, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring M&M for a visit.

Ewok is a tiny tan and cream colored terrier. We think he is about 10 years old and he weighs about 8.5 pounds. He is a calm and quiet guy who loves people and gets along well with other dogs. He likes to wander around in his foster mom's backyard and spend time on her lap. He was picked up as a stray in a rural area of western Kansas. Due to his age and his size, we think he would do best in a quiet adult home. Ewok is neutered, up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Ewok, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring him for a visit.

Daisy is around 7 years old and is likely a cairn terrier. Buddy is her best friend, a schnauzer, and he is around 14. They were surrendered to rescue when their owners went into assisted living and the family couldn't keep them. They need to be placed together, therefore, we are offering a $250 adoption fee for the pair. Daisy had 3 huge bladder stones surgically removed while in rescue. She is on a special prescription diet which is proven to be very effective in preventing the fomation of future stones. She is super loving and playful. Buddy is an older guy, very sweet, but likes his naps too. This bonded male/female pair are neutered/spayed, up to date on their shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet Daisy and Buddy, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring them for a visit.

Oscar and Charlie are a bonded male pair looking for a comfortable, loving retirement home. Their previous owners had a baby and the dogs were not thrilled with that, so they were relinquished to rescue. Oscar is the larger gray schnauzer. He is about 12 years old and weighs just over 23 pounds. Charlie is the smaller black mini. He is about 8 years old and weighs just over 15 pounds. They are used to a quiet adult home, so we are looking for a home with no children. They do enjoy wandering around in the backyard of their foster home. Oscar has a little arthritis in his hind legs and can be a little grumpy, whereas Charlie is more social, but a little timid with strangers. Oscar and Charlie are neutered, they are up to date on their vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. They have both had dental care since they came into rescue. Oscar lost most of his teeth to decay and Charlie lost about half of his, but they both still eat dry kibble. We did blood tests prior to surgery and most of their results were within normal limits. If you would like to meet Oscar and Charlie, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will contact you to set up a time to bring them for a visit.

Howie is a 3 year old white male Miniature Poodle/Bichon who is very scared. He was picked up as a stray off the streets and needs someone to love him and teach him how to be a dog! He is timid with other dogs and people, but will allow himself to be picked up and held, but is always “on guard” as he doesn’t know what to expect. He is a little mischievous when he thinks his foster mom has left the house he will jump out of his exercise pen and wander around the house. He doesn’t do any damage, and most often is found curled up sleeping in a dog bed near another dog. He weighs about 18 pounds and is white and tan with curly fur. Howie is neutered, he is up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked and micro chipped. He tested positive for heartworms, so we have treated him. It will be about 6 months before we can retest him to confirm that the treatment got rid of all the worms. At that time, rescue will pay to have Howie retested and retreated if necessary. If you are interested in Howie, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Howie for a visit.

Bobby was surrendered by his owner because she couldn't care for him anymore. He is about 4 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. His fur is tan and dark brown. We think he is a terrier mix. He may have some Mini in him. Bobby is on the timid side, but warms up quickly to other dogs and most people. He is fearful of loud noises, but comes with a thundershirt. While he is mostly housetrained, and is doing really well in his foster home, it sometimes takes him a while to empty his bladder, so you have to be patient while he wanders around the yard! He has done some marking, but he is successfully using a belly band in his foster home. His ideal home would have a fenced in backyard and a retired person or one who works from home so that he has relatively free access to the outside. He would love to cuddle with you. Bobby is neutered, he is up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. Rebel is ready to find his forever home after getting some loving rehab with his amazing foster family. "Rebel is our 6 year old foster boy. He currently weighs around 16 lbs but he is a bit skinny. He could easily pack on another few and be healthy. Things are really turning around for him. He is starting to put on weight, and his fur is starting to grow in. A full coat of hair is still a ways off, but it is awesome to see improvement. He loves wearing his jacket, but I'm sure he will love it even more when his own fur starts coming back. The biggest improvement I have noticed has been in his attitude. Rebel has become playful and energetic, and any time Rebel thinks you want to play with him, he is down on his front paws with his tail wagging in the air. He even barks now when he gets really excited! A quick rundown of his behaviors and attributes: He is very calm and mellow unless you make him think you want to play. "Go lay down" is something he immediately listens to. He is fully potty trained, but like a lot of boy dogs, picks interesting places in the yard to mark as his own. He has no issues with being close to the other dogs. He has let out a few small growls when the dogs get too close to his face, but not a single issue. He fully understands the concept of fetch and playing with toys, but isn't confident enough to take them from another dog. He LOVES being loved. Every morning after breakfast and every night before bed, mixed in with once an hour checkups on me while I'm working, Rebel is there wagging and smiling and sniffing and looking for some attention." Sampson is a sweet little 9 year old Mini who needs a home. His owners have divorced and are moving and there is no place for him. He is very anxious about all the changes in his life, lately, so we are giving him some calming medication. We think that when he finds a secure, stable situation, the medication can be phased out. When he came into rescue, he had not been groomed for a long time because his owner said that he had snapped at the previous groomer. We have been working with him to get all of the matted hair off and he has been doing well. We have just been going slowly and limiting the length of the sessions. Sampson tends to bark, or actually almost scream when he is scared in a new situation, but he calms down with patience. He doesn't like car rides. He would do well with a patient owner who has had experience with terriers. A quiet, calm household with no children would be best. A backyard for him to play in would be good rather than walks where he would encounter unknown people and other dogs. He has had previous doggie companions that made him feel comfortable and secure. This is a dog that will require a patient understanding owner, but he will give you his heart in return. Sampson is neutered, he is up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you think you are the one that could make Sampson feel secure and loved, go to our website, www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. When I am adopting dogs, I always tell prospective adopters that rescue is 95% fun, but sometimes there are situations you can't fix the way you would like. When we took in Spitz, we were told that he was a "swimmer" puppy. "Swimmer" puppies are born without strong developed muscles to help them stand up by themselves. All four legs splay out to their sides making them look like they are swimming. While breeders often euthanize these puppies because of the time and effort they take to rehabilitate, there are many heartwarming stories on the internet of "swimmers" doing just fine after a couple months of intensive physical therapy. That was our goal with Spitz. After a few weeks or physical therapy though, Spitz seemed to plateau and stop making progress. A couple of weeks ago we took him to a doggie neurologist who determined that the reason Spitz wasn't walking normally is because he has a spinal cord injury. We could do x-rays that might tell us what happened, was it congenital or caused by an injury after he was born? The answers wouldn't make any difference in his treatment or prognosis though, so we didn't get the x-rays. Spitz is a loving puppy with a great personality. His front legs are strong enough that he can pull himself around and get into mischief, and he throws a temper tantrum if he finds an empty water bowl! We have found and purchased a Walkin’ Drag bag for Spitz. It protects his hind quarters from rug burns or injury and lets him get around. One of our volunteers is working on creating a cart for Spitz that can adjust as he grows. Our wonderful physical therapist, The K-9 Body Shop has offered to buy him a cart when he reaches full size. This wasn't our expectation when we took Spitz into rescue, but it will allow him to have a full life. Not sure if I will be able to part with him, but I have to ask, is there an adopter out there for this loving, active little boy?
