Timmy is a little Shih Tzu/poodle mix who needs a loving, permanent home. This little tan and cream colored guy is about 5 years old and weighs just over 12 pounds.Timmy's eyes don't make many tears on their own, so they are very dry and subject to infection. He gets eye drops morning and night to lubricate his eyes and keep them healthy. He is very used to getting the drops and will sit still while you put them in if you give him a cookie. He gets along well with other dogs. He loves people attention and would do best in a quiet adult home, especially where someone is around most of the time, to let him outside frequently. Timmy is neutered, he is up to date on his vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue and microchipped. If you would like to meet Timmy, go to www.cominischcnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Timmy for a visit.

Wilson is a 3 year old rust colored toy poodle with a BIG loving personality! Unfortunately, he has been moved around to several different homes during his short life. He came to Colorado to find a loving home. Wilson has only partial use of his back legs due to an old injury to his spine. He is not in any pain, but does have some urinary incontinence. He gets around well and can run very fast. He is a very happy boy and loves lap time and cuddles. He gets along well with other dogs. Wilson is neutered, he is up to date on his shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. We are currently looking into surgery to repair the ruptured disc, so we are looking for a foster home for him now that could care for him after his surgery. If you would like to help, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the foster care application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Wilson for a visit.

Millie is a sweet little girl who came to Colorado in search of a loving retirement home. She was picked up as a stray in Utah in pretty bad shape. She had a badly infected eye that had to be removed and her skin was in terrible condition, from fleas and a terrible diet. She is all better now, and ready to go! We guess that she is between 7 and 9 years old and weighs just over 10 pounds. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys attention and petting from her foster mom. After being out on her own for some period of time she needs someone to help her regain her housetraining habits, but she is improving. She would probably do best in a quiet adult home with no children. Millie is spayed, she is up to date on her shots, (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet Millie, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Millie for a visit.

Jade is still a puppy at barely a year old. She needs someone to help her learn how to be a great little dog. Jade came into rescue from a local shelter. She was relinquished by her owner because she was too active. In the shelter she was fearful of other dogs, so they asked rescue to take her in. She is doing much better in her foster home. Her tail is no longer between her legs, but she is still a little jealous of other dogs. She might just be best as an only dog. She needs some work on her obedience skills and leash walking, but she really loves lap time and people attention. Jade is tan, with the face of a Brussels Griffon and the body of a terrier with a lovely tail and long locks of fur going down her back. Jade is spayed, she is up to date on her shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet Jade, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Jade for a visit.

Toby is an adorable 6 year old schnauzer who landed in a local shelter. He's is a wonderful foster home now with another 6 year old male mini and his foster mom wants everyone to know what a sweet, funny, cuddly guy he is. He and his foster brother love each other and play and romp a lot. Toby needs someone who will spend some time with his walking etiquette and fearfulness when he is on walks. When on a leash or at a dog park, he exhibits a lot of reactivity. The foster mom is trying a thundershirt which seems to be helping. He loves his yard though and other than the normal schnauzer barks, he's very comfortable there. We think Toby will be a great little companion for someone....is that someone you?? Toby is neutered, up to date on their shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet Toby, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring him for a visit.

Jordy (the gray one) and Einstein (the white one) are an adorable bonded pair of male Minis who are looking for a new home. They are about 5.5 years old and weigh just over 20 pounds. Quiet and calm, they just love people attention and playing outside in their fenced in yard. They are a little talkative when meeting new dogs, but get along well in their off leash play yard. They were littermates, and so are very bonded. They get concerned when the other is out of their sight. At their vet exam, each one stood up with their front paws on the exam table while the other one was getting checked out by the vet. Jordy and Einstein are neutered, they are up to date on their shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. They each also had their teeth cleaned. If you would like to meet these two fun guys, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. ABBY is a sweet little 10 year old “special needs” mini. After being picked up as a stray, Abby spent her time in the shelter manager’s office because she was such a sweet, well-behaved little dog. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right time for the manager to adopt another dog, so Abby was transferred to our rescue. Her eyes were smaller than normal and sunken in their sockets. We discovered that she had “dry eye” which means that the eyes produced no tears. With our vet’s advice we decided to remove the eyes. When we did we found debris which had accumulated behind the eyes which must have been very painful for her. She is recovering well and getting accustomed to her foster home. Abby loves people attention and lots of lap time. She is quiet, housetrained, and gets along well with other calm dogs. She is just a joy to have around according to her foster mom. Abby is spayed, she is up to date on her vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. She does have a heart murmur, but the vet did not think that she needs medication. Because she is over 9 years old, we did run blood tests which came back within normal limits. She did have her teeth cleaned and cared for while in rescue. If you would like to meet Abby, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Abby for a visit.

Mercedes (4 yr old poodle) and Maxwell Smart (14 yr old bichon) are the sweetest bonded pair who need a foster or adopter. Their mom died very suddenly last Spring, so their world was turned upside down. Luckily their mom had loving and devoted friends who ensured that these two came into rescue where we promised to keep them together since they are very bonded (Max to Mercedes more than the other way around). They are quiet, cuddly, tiny, and adorable. Someone who is retired or who works from home would be ideal since these sweeties love being with their peeps. Max has some health issues as expected with a dog as old as he is, but he's funny and a friend to all dogs he meets. By using a belly band with a feminine pad lining it (rescue will supply some stylish belly bands) you solve his one indoor issue and voila, a sweet boy who just wants love in his sunset time. Mercedes just wants to be near you, and if you can't find her, just look down and she will be close to your foot, but not in a tripping manner. She is just very devoted. They both love to walk, and will actually help you get their harnesses on. Max is a bit slower as would be expected, and it is so cute, when Mercedes gets a little ahead of you, then realizes is, she backs up to again be right beside you. They are awesome little walking companions, just keeping in mind that Max can't go too far. Mercedes and Max are spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and micro chipped. If you would like to meet this sweet pair, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring MandM for a visit.

Oscar and Charlie are a bonded male pair looking for a comfortable, loving retirement home. Their previous owners had a baby and the dogs were not thrilled with that, so they were relinquished to rescue. Oscar is the larger gray schnauzer. He is about 12 years old and weighs just over 23 pounds. Charlie is the smaller black mini. He is about 8 years old and weighs just over 15 pounds. They are used to a quiet adult home, so we are looking for a home with no children. They do enjoy wandering around in the backyard of their foster home. Oscar has a little arthritis in his hind legs and can be a little grumpy, whereas Charlie is more social, but a little timid with strangers. Oscar and Charlie are neutered, they are up to date on their vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. They have both had dental care since they came into rescue. Oscar lost most of his teeth to decay and Charlie lost about half of his, but they both still eat dry kibble. We did blood tests prior to surgery and most of their results were within normal limits. If you would like to meet Oscar and Charlie, go to www.cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will contact you to set up a time to bring them for a visit.

Rebel is ready to find his forever home after getting some loving rehab with his amazing foster family. "Rebel is our 6 year old foster boy. He currently weighs around 16 lbs but he is a bit skinny. He could easily pack on another few and be healthy. Things are really turning around for him. He is starting to put on weight, and his fur is starting to grow in. A full coat of hair is still a ways off, but it is awesome to see improvement. He loves wearing his jacket, but I'm sure he will love it even more when his own fur starts coming back. The biggest improvement I have noticed has been in his attitude. Rebel has become playful and energetic, and any time Rebel thinks you want to play with him, he is down on his front paws with his tail wagging in the air. He even barks now when he gets really excited! A quick rundown of his behaviors and attributes: He is very calm and mellow unless you make him think you want to play. "Go lay down" is something he immediately listens to. He is fully potty trained, but like a lot of boy dogs, picks interesting places in the yard to mark as his own. He has no issues with being close to the other dogs. He has let out a few small growls when the dogs get too close to his face, but not a single issue. He fully understands the concept of fetch and playing with toys, but isn't confident enough to take them from another dog. He LOVES being loved. Every morning after breakfast and every night before bed, mixed in with once an hour checkups on me while I'm working, Rebel is there wagging and smiling and sniffing and looking for some attention." Sampson, or Scrappy as he is affectionately known, is a handsome 9.5 year old mini schnauzer who is looking for a loving retirement home. He weighs about 16 pounds. Sampson is a very nervous boy who prefers to stay inside the house, only going outside to potty, and he likes the security of his kennel. He does not have separation anxiety, just very nervous in the open. He doesn’t like car rides or walks, but will stay outside with his person close by. We took him to an enclosed yard and once he got used to it, and knew his favorite person was there, he calmed down a lot and started enjoying running around a bit. He has a beautiful prance when he's running around. We don't know what caused this boy to be so terrified in his past, but he is slow to warm up to new people. He has been with other dogs. He doesn't do well with young humans, so would prefer a quiet adult home where someone is around most of the time and is ok with him just being himself. He loves to destuff his toys and will eat the squeaker, so chewies work better to keep him occupied. Sampson is neutered, he is up to date on his vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. He is currently on medication to help with his anxiety. He also had his teeth cleaned and cared for while in rescue. If you would like to meet Sampson, go to www.cominischnazuerrescue.com and complete the adoption application. We will give you a call to set up a time to bring him for a visit.

When I am adopting dogs, I always tell prospective adopters that rescue is 95% fun, but sometimes there are situations you can't fix the way you would like. When we took in Spitz, we were told that he was a "swimmer" puppy. "Swimmer" puppies are born without strong developed muscles to help them stand up by themselves. All four legs splay out to their sides making them look like they are swimming. While breeders often euthanize these puppies because of the time and effort they take to rehabilitate, there are many heartwarming stories on the internet of "swimmers" doing just fine after a couple months of intensive physical therapy. That was our goal with Spitz. After a few weeks or physical therapy though, Spitz seemed to plateau and stop making progress. A couple of weeks ago we took him to a doggie neurologist who determined that the reason Spitz wasn't walking normally is because he has a spinal cord injury. We could do x-rays that might tell us what happened, was it congenital or caused by an injury after he was born? The answers wouldn't make any difference in his treatment or prognosis though, so we didn't get the x-rays. Spitz is a loving puppy with a great personality. His front legs are strong enough that he can pull himself around and get into mischief, and he throws a temper tantrum if he finds an empty water bowl! We have found and purchased a Walkin’ Drag bag for Spitz. It protects his hind quarters from rug burns or injury and lets him get around. One of our volunteers is working on creating a cart for Spitz that can adjust as he grows. Our wonderful physical therapist, The K-9 Body Shop has offered to buy him a cart when he reaches full size. This wasn't our expectation when we took Spitz into rescue, but it will allow him to have a full life. Not sure if I will be able to part with him, but I have to ask, is there an adopter out there for this loving, active little boy?
