Running Bear has joined a wonderful foster home and we are getting updates on his progress that we want to share. Fostering is critical to rescues – the foster dog gets to learn how to function in a home and is given a paw up with any training needs, and the foster dog has a loving temporary home which then frees up a spot in the rescue so that we can save another homeless pup.
In Running Bear’s case, he was rescued out of a pretty horrible puppy mill in Missouri where he spent 7 years caged 24/7 with little human contact, and certainly no human kindness. Due to this, he is understandably nervous around humans. An amazing foster family here in Denver agreed to take him in and work with him to help him adjust and be able to find his perfect forever home. He has a canine pack helping him out as well. Here is the foster family’s Day 1 report:
“Bear made a nest in his bed with the fleece, and took a nice nap. He is also starting to come closer to us, and has sniffed my hand voluntarily. He also has started to drink from our supplies, and followed our pups inside when we went out again. Also, when our mail arrived, our dogs went nuts as usual, barking. He ran out into the living room (because he likes to sit in the hallway), and was clearly confused but intrigued as to why our pups were barking so loud. After they calmed down, he went up to Gusteau and sniffed his nose, like ‘uh, what are you dogs DOING?’ We can see already that this guy has a heart of gold and we just need to help him blossom.”
