Thank you to everyone who helped get Begley, now named Fritz, back to his people. Thank you to all who posted and shared and said a prayer. And a very special thank you to the wonderful couple, Eric and Kari, who found Fritz running loose, then saw the Craigslist post that our good friend Karen thought to post immediately in the Fort Collins area, and contacted us. Here are some pictures of the happy reunion.
Some lessons learned:
Make sure to hook the leash to then “D” ring on the dog’s collar, not the ring holding the dog’s tags. When Fritz saw something interesting and pulled on his tether, the tag ring gave way, and he lost his tags. His people thought Fritz had been stolen because the tags were left behind.
Stay outside with your dog. Most places in Colorado have seen fox or coyotes in suburban back yards, and some people can be even more dangerous, stealing dogs from backyards to resell.
Is your dog’s chip information up to date? Without his tags, Fritz’s microchip was what identified him. Eric and Kari took him right away to get scanned.
On a related topic, a big thank you to those of you who watch Craigslist for schnauzers in need of rescue. A friend looking for potential “found Begley” posts found a “for sale” post involving one of our previously adopted dogs. Luckily we were able to contact the new owners and arrange to get him safely back into rescue. So suffice it to say, yesterday was a bit of an emotional roller coaster which concluded with two happy endings. ???
