Adopt Teddy: a friendly mini boy

08/20/2015 – Teddy has been adopted!!!

Teddy, a 7 year old male mini, has been in his wonderful foster home for a couple of months learning what a loving home is all about. He came from a Houston shelter where he’d had surgery to remove bladder stones, and has been working on his skills with his foster parents and foster fur siblings. His family shares this about Teddy:

” 1. The first few days we had him while we were at work, he would bark and woof for several hours, as far as we could see on the camera. Now? He gets up when there is a noise, but most of the time he is curled into a little schnauzer ball on our couch, happily snoozing away…most of the time right next to his good buddy Gusteau.

2. He is not in the slightest bit food aggressive, or trying to take other dogs’ food away from them, even if fed in the same room. He WILL try to stuff his head in the food bin, though, so you do have to be a bit careful…?

3. He is always SO happy to see Caroline and I when we come home, and is becoming less obnoxious when greeting/requesting attention. He is learning “down” and “no” very well, although we are still working on less chewing of arms and fingers. He is making GREAT progress, especially when you say “Teeth”…he then backs off. ?

4. He has not had a mess in the house since the first week we had him.

5. Overnight, he wants to talk to you when you climb into bed, but once you tell him it is night night time, and lay him down, he gets the idea and sleeps through the whole night. He will be protective of his environment, though – and wake up and growl at noises. Not too bad, though.

6. He is discovering toys, and has figured out that he likes to play tug. He has not tried to chew on or scratch anything in the house, save for his spot on the couch when he is settling down. One has to make a nest, after all…

7. He was very friendly (a bit too friendly if you ask JoJo/Joey!) when we had visitors a couple of weeks ago, no signs of territory aggression. He made a beeline straight for Joey’s mom, and was dancing and waving paws at her, until Joey decided he had to defend his mom.

He tolerated being bathed very well, but is not crazy about getting groomed about his face. Bit by bit, with lots of patience, works well there.

Our only real ongoing “challenge” with him is his desire to look out windows, even if he is too small or the furniture is too far away. We’ve seen him a couple of times try to “pull a cat” and jump from the couch to the window, and if someone isn’t careful with an open (screened) window he could hit it and pop it loose/escape. We also have to be careful with our trash can!

Other than that…he is SUCH a great dog. Wants to be friends with everyone.”
